Charl Boettger is a Costume Designer based in Canada, with more than two decades of experience in film and television across Canada, the United States, Europe and Southern Africa.

His costume design work spans contemporary and period storytelling, with credits including Haunted Wedding, Following Yonder Star, A Magical New York Christmas, The Snow Must Go On and Christmas at the Plaza. His approach combines character-driven design with a strong understanding of silhouette, colour, texture and the practical demands of production.

Alongside his work as a Costume Designer, Charl has held senior costume department positions on major film and television productions including Fargo, Billy the Kid, Violent Night 2, Flag Day, Champions and A Dog’s Journey. This experience has given him an extensive understanding of large-scale costume departments, builds, fittings, continuity, background populations and the collaboration required between costume, production and other creative departments.

His work on Fargo Season 5 formed part of the costume team nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award, and his credits have also received recognition from the Canadian Alliance of Film & Television Costume Arts & Design Awards.

Originally from Southern Africa, Charl brings an international perspective to his work and a particular interest in both period costume and visually distinctive contemporary storytelling.

He is currently available for film and television projects across Canada and internationally.
